Grimes, Iowa - Storm Water Inspector 
Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Utilities and ROW Superintendent, the Storm Water Inspector is responsible for inspection and file management for public and private construction compliance throughout the City to ensure a high-functioning storm water collection system and compliance with state and federal regulations and the City’s Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) permit.
Essential Duties
Inspects all manner of public works, subdivision, site plan, and building construction projects impacting drainage and storm water systems and infrastructure to determine compliance the City’s MS4 permit. Assists with review and approval of all site plan and Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP). Monitors and advises on sediment and erosion control measures, notes deficiencies, maintains project logs, and prepares correspondence, records, reports, and logs as may be requested or required by law. Participates in all other necessary duties to meet City’s MS4 permit compliance obligations. Assists in interpreting and explaining ordinances, codes and regulations to contractors, homeowners and interested parties. Maintains project files and coordinates with Development Services Department to develop and maintain maps and databases relating to City’s storm water utility, engineering, and Public Works operations. Assists in the investigation of suspected illicit discharges to the storm sewer system. Expected to work outside of normal classification in the event of an emergency, winter snow event, or extreme weather or related event. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assist other personnel as directed in the operation, maintenance, and repairs of the Municipal Utilities facilities and sewer collection system. Record readings from meters, gauges, and related controls and equipment to maintain proper pumping rates, flows, and to make necessary minor operational or mechanical adjustments. Maintain records. Recognize and evaluate potential operational or mechanical problems and advise operational staff or supervisor. Assist the public by listening to complaints, inquiries, and problems, and taking the appropriate actions necessary to correct them and advise the supervisor or superintendent when necessary.
